Although an
adventure/travel photographer by trade, Dan actually has a degree in
music production and engineering from the Berklee College of Music in
Boston. Music became an important part of life long before he ever
bought his first camera. During elememtary school, he discovered FM
rock radio and his uncle's Led Zeppelin records and then
while in high school, he discovered the electric guitar, and he's
been hooked ever since.
When his post high school dreams of becoming a rock star didn't
immediately pan out, Dan enrolled at Berklee where he learned the
technical crafts and art of music production, 24-track recording and
mixing, live
sound reinforcement, and audio for film and video. It was while
attending Berklee that Dan bought a Nikon FM2 and fell in love with
photography. After graduating with his music degree, he did some soul
searching and decided to pursue a career that was rooted in his love of
the outdoors, instead of a career that would most likely have placed
him inside windowless recording studios.
Music has continued to remain a vital part of his life and even though
he's given up his rock star dreams, his guitars are still an integral
creative outlet for him. During the past few years, he's found himself
dusting off his production skills and exploring the affordable
advancements of digital recording, first with a Boss 8-track machine,
and currently with a G5 Power Mac and Apple Logic recording
software. The process has been an exciting one for Dan and some of his music has ended up in the soundtracks
for his adventure slide show presentations. He plans to continue that
process and with the many ideas that circulate in his head, the future
is bound to see more projects that combine his photographic imagery
with
his own recorded music, such as his "Where Do You Find Adventure"
commercial. Stay tuned...!
